In attesa di conoscere i risvolti del lavoro del team Paradox, alcuni utenti della comunità ps3news.com si sono rimboccati le maniche con un intento comune e piuttosto ambizioso: fare breccia nel sistema di sicurezza di Playstation 3 per caricare immagini dei dischi Blu-ray PS3 dall'hard disk.

Tra gli interventi del gruppo di lavoro ha suscitato parecchio interesse quanto postato dall'utente Hackobell. Il giovane hacker (portavoce di un team composto da altre due persone) sostiene di aver trovato un grosso baco nei firmware PS3, v1.60 inclusa, che permetterebbe l'esecuzione di immagini .bin da un drive virtuale.
Facendo crashare la console (con una opportuna procedura e una distribuzione Linux modificata) mentre questa si trova in modalità OtherOS, la macchina si riavvia restituendo la videata della XBM in una sorta di modalità DEV. In questo modo Hackobell & friends sostengono di aver eseguito con successo le immagini di alcuni giochi PSX. Da precisare che l'exploit si trova ancora ad uno stadio embrionale e che i test effettuati da questo gruppo di 'sviluppatori' non sono stati esenti da diversi problemi, alcuni dei quali tuttora irrisolti.

Di seguito un sunto degli interventi salienti di Hackobell:
Yesterday i talked about a method that could be used for loading games. Some minutes ago, i have been abled to mount a .bin on linux and then load it on the XMB with a crash on linux. I have tried with a game, but cant mount it correctly. The film plays well, only some points that get low speed. I dont know if all this helps, but unless it is a way of hacking the system. The crash didnt work at first, but suddenly at the 4th time, it crashed the system, then suddenly i saw the intro music of the XMB and suddenly there was the image.

there is a big bug (like the one in men in black) in linux. With the bug you can put your ps3 in a semi DEV console so you can crash the system and go back to the Xmb with a image mounted.

PSX GAMES ARE WORKING, not at a full way, i can only manage to get to the menu, then the system turns off. The dev xmb i have been able to launch is kind of a strange thing. For those asking what system i am using, i am using a modified fedora, homemade one.
